What to Expect in a Session With Me

I view therapy as a collaborative partnership where we will work together to create and pursue your goals and build the life you desire. Through sessions, we will focus on supporting your personal growth, self-understanding, and overall well-being. You will bring your lived experiences, insights, and personal goals into our sessions, while I contribute unconditional support, attentiveness, and counseling skills to support you along the way. My approach to counseling is based in person-centered therapy with strength-based techniques. This means I place a strong emphasis on your strengths, experiences, and personal knowledge of yourself. I also incorporate creative and art-based techniques into our sessions as an additional tool. Art can serve as a way to understand our internal experience or keep us grounded in the moment. You can expect a bowl of fidget toys, lots of art materials, and unconditional compassion. I try to make the space as inviting as possible so you can feel welcome to bring your full self to each session. All emotions, experiences, and thoughts are welcome here!

A Little Bit About Me

I am currently in my second year of my Master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at Virginia Commonwealth University. I previously earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology from James Madison University. My interest in counseling grew from my experiences as a mentor, supervisor, and educator. In each of these roles, I found myself building connections with people and helping them recognize their strengths and abilities so they could channel them into progress and growth. I’ve always enjoyed being a listening ear and creating a safe space where people feel comfortable bringing their full authentic selves. Outside of academia and my career, I have a plethora of hobbies and truly not enough time to do them all! If I’m not in session, I am likely watering my houseplants, crafting my next creation, fostering a cat, or meal prepping. I believe finding time to enjoy the little things in life is what makes the world a beautiful place. And if that means collecting your 50th plant, so be it!
