What to Expect in an Appointment with Me
I provide thoughtful, patient-centered care to children, adolescents, and adults using a collaborative, trauma-informed approach, and I strive to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for people of all identities. I take time to understand each person’s concerns, experiences, and goals so we can develop a personalized plan that feels supportive and manageable. My approach is influenced by positive psychiatry, meaning we focus not only on symptoms and challenges, but also on strengths, supports, and the parts of life that bring meaning and enjoyment. Care may include medication management, education, and brief therapy, with an emphasis on shared decision-making and thoughtful follow-up. Initial appointments are typically 60–75 minutes, with follow-up visits generally ranging from 20–45 minutes depending on individual needs.
A Little Bit About Me
I’ve lived in Virginia for most of my life and am raising two teenagers alongside my husband, our two dogs, and two cats. Outside of work, I enjoy walking, reading, and hands-on projects that keep my mind busy, including solving fictional crimes and tending to an ever-growing collection of houseplants. I value balance, curiosity, and staying connected to the people and activities that bring meaning to everyday life.
I began my nursing career in labor and delivery at VCU Health, providing high-acuity care to women and families during pregnancy and childbirth for over 15 years, often alongside co-occurring mental health concerns and substance use. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University, then a Master of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and later a post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Frontier Nursing University. Today, I am dual board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.
