What to Expect in a Session With Me

My priority as a therapist is to create an environment where you feel safe, comfortable, and supported enough to talk to me about your life. Therefore, at the beginning of our time together, I like to focus on getting to know about you and the details that make you unique. I believe many different factors contribute to making a person who they are, and I like to consider all those pieces as I work with someone.  Once we get to know each other a little better, we may move into processing, practicing mindfulness, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, or a multitude of other pathways with the intent to build coping skills. My ultimate goal for my clients is to create an internal toolkit that they can use to address the mental health challenges that life throws their way. I use a variety of approaches in my work based on the understanding that not everyone benefits from the same therapies. Some that I tend to integrate regularly in practice are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systems Theory, Intersectional Feminist Therapy, mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. Another feature of my therapeutic process is using humor as a salve when discussing hard topics (when appropriate, obviously). I find myself particularly passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community, survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and those struggling with relationship or self-esteem issues.

A Little About Me

I am originally from Maryland but have been living in Richmond for 11 years now and really love it here. I enjoy traveling and experiencing new places; however, my favorite place in the world is home. Some of my other interests include photography, baking, thrifting, finding new music to enjoy, and watching cute/funny animal videos on the internet. I also love the opportunity to make a mess with a fun art project like making a handmade card for a friend or coloring to unwind after a long day.
